This Privacy Policy explains how the Classroom Pulse Add-on (the “Add-on”) handles and protects information. We are committed to supporting student well-being while safeguarding student privacy in full alignment with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Key Principle: We do not collect, store, access, or share any personal student data.


1. FERPA Compliance

The Classroom Pulse Add-on is designed to comply with FERPA, a U.S. federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.

  • Data Control: All data collected through the Add-on is controlled and stored by the teacher (or school), not by the developers.

  • No Access: We do not access, store, or process any student records or personally identifiable information (PII).

  • Educational Use Only: The Add-on is intended solely for educational use by authorized school personnel and students.

2. Data Handling and Storage

Purpose
 The Add-on enables students to submit brief daily check-ins regarding their mood, energy, and focus, providing teachers with insights into student well-being.

Information Sent to the Teacher
 When a student completes a check-in, the following data is sent directly to a private Google Sheet owned by the teacher:

  • Student’s name

  • Class code

  • Selected mood (emoji)

  • Energy and focus rating

  • Optional written comment

  • Optional request for a teacher follow-up

Data Stored on the Student’s Device
 To improve convenience, the Add-on may store the following items only on the student’s browser using local storage (not synced or accessible by us):

  • Student’s name and class code (to pre-fill the form)

3. Use of Information

Teachers may use check-in responses to:

  • Monitor student emotional well-being

  • Identify students requesting one-on-one conversations

  • Provide support or calming activities based on student responses

This data is only accessible to the teacher and is not shared with third parties.

4. Data Sharing and Ownership

  • We do not collect or store any data.

  • All data stays within the school’s or teacher’s Google Workspace account.

  • We do not share, sell, or rent any data—ever.

The teacher or school retains full ownership and control of all data submitted through the Add-on, consistent with FERPA requirements.

5. Security

The Add-on is built using Google Apps Script and operates entirely within Google’s secure cloud infrastructure. Data is transmitted only within a school’s Google Workspace environment. No third-party servers or services are involved.

6. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as needed. Changes will be posted on this page, and the “Last Updated” date will be revised accordingly.
